High Resolution Radar Imaging of Urban Areas
نویسنده
چکیده
New synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors on satellites like TerrsSAR-X allow flexible mapping with a large coverage or a high resolution of about one meter. Leading-edge airborne SAR sensors provide spatial resolutions on the order of a decimetre. In such data, many features of urban objects can be identified, which were beyond the scope of radar remote sensing before. But, SAR images are often really difficult to be interpreted: the presence of speckle as well as of some distortion effects, like shadowing and layover, makes the analysis of this kind of image complex. The impact of high resolution SAR data on the analysis of urban scenes and typical SAR effects are discussed. Examples for the appearance of buildings and other man-made objects are given..The benefit of SAR-simulation is addressed and examples are shown. Finally, typical problems in SAR smulation is discussed.

Introducing An Efficient Set of High Spatial Resolution Images of Urban Areas to Evaluate Building Detection Algorithms
The present work aims to introduce an efficient set of high spatial resolution (HSR) images in order to more fairly evaluate building detection algorithms. The introduced images are chosen from two recent HSR sensors (QuickBird and GeoEye-1) and based on several challenges of urban areas encountered in building detection such as diversity in building density, building dissociation, building sha...
متن کاملVery High Resolution Parametric and Non- Parametric Sartomography Methods for Monitoring Urban Areas Structures
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is the only way to evaluate deformation of the Earth’s surface from space on the order of centimeters and millimeters due to its coherent nature and short wavelengths. Hence, by this means the long term risk monitoring and security are performed as precisely as possible. Traditional SAR imaging delivers a projection of the 3-D object to the two dimensional (2-D) a...

PAMIR (Phased Array Multifunctional Imaging Radar) is an experimental airborne radar system that has been designed and built by the Research Institute for High Frequency Physics and Radar Techniques (FHR) of Forschungsgesellschaft für Angewandte Naturwissenschaften (FGAN). The goal is to meet the growing demands for future reconnaissance systems with respect to flexibility and multi-mode operat...
متن کاملNew Models for the Analysis of High Resolution Sar Images of Urban Areas
SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images with very high resolution (till 1 meter) are now provided by new powerful sensors but their analysis, interpretation and classification are very hard when urban areas are under study. In this paper the high resolution in SAR images of built-up areas is faced with a model-based approach allowing detection and correct interpretation of 1 meter geometries.
متن کاملApplication of Local Area Weather Radar (LAWR) in relation to hydrological modelling – Identification of the pitfalls in using high resolution radar rainfall data
Recent analysis of spatial and temporal resolution of rainfall and the advent of small inexpensive rainfall radars has lead to increased use of radar estimated rainfall as input to hydrological models especially in urban areas. Detailed rainfall measurements have indicated a very high spatial variation of up to 100 % of a distance of less that 200 m over a 3 hour rainfall event [Jensen and Pede...
